Class Type: Music
For: Beginning Hand-Drummers!
Do you find yourself tapping along on the table or steering wheel when listening to music? Have you found yourself thinking while dancing, “Hey! I could play that drum beat!” Or do you just love the thought of sitting down and playing a drum so any belly dancer has something to dance to?! Well have no fear! BOOM is here! In this class, you will learn some of the basic Middle Eastern Darbuka rhythms that belly dancers dance to! We will perform at the Satori Student Showcase 2018 for a Fly Fusion® piece! All students are responsible for acquiring their own drums for this class.
The most common hand drum(s) in Middle Eastern drumming are Djembe, Dombec/Doumbek, or Darabouka/Darbuka. You will need to purchase/long-term borrow one for the class. Scheitel’s here in Mankato currently carries a small selection of some larger Dejembe’s, but there are also stores in the Metro area that may have a larger selection. You can also rent one! Scheitel’s can also special order a drum for you. There is no size requirement. However, the larger it is, the more spendy it will get :) Please, no tiny hand drums as it is difficult to get a wide range of tones when playing.
